Reiki Healing in Birmingham
Welcome to Gifted Hands Reiki. My name is Karen and I am a Reiki practitioner and teacher based in Wells Green near Sheldon, Birmingham. I am also a member of the UK Reiki Federation.
What happens during a Reiki treatment?
Following an initial consultation with me, you will lie on a therapy couch (or sit in a chair if this is uncomfortable or not possible). The room is a very calm and relaxed environment – the lighting is dim, gentle music will be played and relaxing aromatherapy oils will be diffused (unless requested otherwise).
The Reiki session itself usually lasts 45 minutes to 1 hour. I gently place my hands on or above the body in various positions, working from the head to the feet. You may feel a variety of sensations (for example heat, tingling, pulsating) or you may not feel anything at all. It is also common to experience an emotional release as a problem is addressed – this may take the form of tears or elation/happiness. Whether you experience these sensations or not, this is perfectly normal. Every Reiki treatment is different, there is no right or wrong.
After your Reiki, you may feel sleepy. Because of this, and because the therapeutic benefits of Reiki continue beyond the time spent in your session, it is recommended that you take it easy afterwards to gain the full benefits of your treatment.

FAQs about our Reiki treatment
Can Reiki be used in conjunction with conventional/complementary medicine?
Yes, it can be used safely with both.
Is Reiki suitable for children under the age of 16?
Yes, with parental consent. Children are very receptive to Reiki as they tend to have fewer blockages than adults. There are no age restrictions for Reiki (sessions will be adapted to individual needs wherever necessary).
Are there any side effects/contraindications?
There are no negative side effects, however, anyone suffering from pre-existing medical conditions should inform me prior to any treatments.
Is there anything I should do after Reiki?
You will be given an Aftercare Leaflet explaining the do’s and don’ts following your treatment. The healing process is very individual to each client. However, we advise you to drink plenty of water for the days following your treatment to help the body to continue to detox. We recommend that you take it easy after your treatment and not do anything too strenuous to gain the full benefits of your Reiki.
How long is the treatment?
It depends upon the individual but you should allow up to 90 minutes for your Reiki session. Your first appointment may be slightly longer as it will include an initial consultation.
Can I have Reiki whilst pregnant/breast feeding?
Yes, it is totally safe and both mother and baby can benefit from Reiki.
How often should I have Reiki?
As a general rule, we recommend three sessions initially each two to three weeks apart. One session will make a difference but three in succession is advised in order to obtain optimum health benefits.
Do I really need Reiki?
You don’t necessarily need to be unwell or suffering in any way to feel the benefits. I actually have clients who book with me regularly to maintain their health and wellbeing. As the saying goes “prevention is better than cure”.
